Meet the Assistant Principal
Mr. Coplin was born and raised in the Bronx, NYC. His first stint in Connecticut came when he attended Trinity College, graduating with a degree in Psychology before heading back to New York City. While working in public schools in New York, he obtained his Master's Degree in School Counseling from Lehman College. After starting a family, he moved back to Connecticut where he spent 4 years in New Haven, working with some of the city's most at-risk youth. During his time in New Haven, Mr. Coplin furthered his education by earning his Administrative certification from Sacred Heart University. He joins the Derby High School family bringing over a decade of educational background working with diverse populations.
When not making an impact at DHS, Mr. Coplin enjoys spending time with his two daughters and is an avid motorcyclist, with over 15 years of riding experience. On weekends he is an instructor for the Connecticut Rider Education Program, teaching beginner riders how to safely operate a motorcycle. He is also a huge sports fan and swears his allegiance to the NY Yankees and NY Giants.
