Two New Haven Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements for Renewable:
Live in the New Haven Alumnae Chapter service area (Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden Madison, Meriden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Seymour, Wallingford, West Haven or Woodbridge)
Must be an African American Female
Plan to enter a four-year university/college as a full-time freshman in the Fall of 2022.
Initial award: Have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Renewable scholarship: Recipient must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA each year while in college in order to renew annually* after initial award disbursement, it is renewable for 3 years.
Award disbursement will be based on enrollment verification (full-time) and transcript verification

Have a cumulative weighted GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or 1.75 on a 3.0 scale.
Plan to enter a two-year or four-year university/college or a vocational post-secondary program as a full-time freshman in the Fall of 2022

American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest
Each winner who is certified into and participates in the national contest’s first round receives a $2,000 scholarship. Those who advance past the first round receive an additional $2,000 scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States.
Any student under the age of 20 years on the date of the national contest who is presently enrolled in a high school or junior high school (public, parochial, military, private or home school).
Students must be enrolled in high school or junior high school during the time of participation at any level of The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest.
Contestants must either be legally domiciled within or attend an educational institution within the department that they enter competition.
Contestants can enter competition through only one department.

Silver Pen Scholarship Contest
Deadline: February 11, 2022
$500- $2,500
Eligibility Requirements:
All high school seniors who live or attend school within 25 miles of Evergreen Woods.
Essay must be the applicant’s original work
Applicants may only enter ONE time and only apply to ONE community. Students’ who do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified.
Essays must be a minimum of 1000 words and DOUBLE SPACED. (Please include a cover page and any necessary citations on a works cited page.)
Quotations may be used sparingly, and sources must be clearly identified

Essay Contest
2021-2022 Topic: “Throwing Away Our Shot?”
The contest is open to all Connecticut students under the age of 21 who are enrolled in grades 9-12, or their equivalent, at an accredited high school, vocational-technical school, or adult high school credit diploma program located within the State of Connecticut. The contest is also open to all Connecticut homeschooled students in grades equivalent to 9-12.
Grand Prize - $2,000
Two Runner-Up Prizes - $1,000 each
Essays will be judged by federal and state court judges, law professors, and attorneys, with an awards ceremony planned for Spring 2022 at the Connecticut Supreme Court.

"Teen Safe Driving" Video

VIDEO CHECKLIST: The length of my video is 45 seconds or less. Your video demonstrates the theme: “Driving Safe Habits”. Your video is creative and will stand out. Your video features at least one specific Connecticut teen driving law. You have submitted your entry forms to DMV with your video. (Be sure you have all the necessary signatures and listing of no more than five (5) team members.)
THIS YEAR’S THEME: "Driving Safe Habits"
BACKGROUND: The student director and the team must use the video to demonstrate participants sharing the things that “drive” them to be safe. For example: family, friends, or anything that is most important to the team. Show viewers the reasons you pledge to drive safely.
HOW TO ENTER: High school students produce a creative, unique and effective video public service announcement. Video can be up to 45 seconds in length. Your video can be less than 45 seconds, but it can not exceed 45 seconds.
WHO CAN ENTER: High school student ages 14 to 18 enrolled in a public or private high school located in Connecticut, or students ages 14 to 18 who are home-schooled in Connecticut.
Here is a summary of contest prizes:
Travelers provides the monetary awards to schools: First place will receive $6,000, second place will receive $5,000 and third place will receive $4,000.
Winning student teams will receive up to $1,250 in Visa Gift cards with amounts that vary depending on the award.
A $500 award will go to the school with the most submissions.
Awards will also be given to schools and its students for videos. The award categories 1) Creativity, 2) Use of Different Media, 3) Social Media.
The state Department of Transportation is offering an award to the show the first-place video in venues across the state.

54 students will be named winners from their state/territory. Four finalists will win a $5,000 scholarship and one winning student will receive:
A $30,000 college scholarship
A $50,000 Google for Education technology package for their school
Their artwork will be placed on the Google homepage for a day!
